Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was hoping to get in a round of golf at a charity event yesterday without having to discuss the Ronaldo to Madrid saga. So when the big Scot came off the course, chances were pretty good that the media standing in front of him were going to get stonewalled on the only question that seems to matter in Manchester these days. Boy were they in for a shock…
The Telegraph reports that Ferguson made it clear to those in attendance that he’s planning on making one summer signing this season (shock!), and that the Ronaldo to Real links will continue to be nothing more than a pipe dream. The midfielder will be a part of his plan for the upcoming season, even after Ferguson was denied access to Ronaldo at the Portugal training ground during Euro 2008.
Sir Alex Ferguson has given a clear indication that he expects Cristiano Ronaldo to remain at Manchester United next season and has also implied that he expects to make only one signing this summer.
…Ferguson admitted that he believes the 23-year-old will be one of a number of players whose participation in last season’s Champions League final victory over Chelsea will accelerate their improvement in a United shirt. (Telegraph)
Everything seems to be business as usual for United. While it remains to be seen who the one transfer will be, most supporters of the Manchester club have to be feeling a bit more at ease about the whole Ronaldo situation.
Do Man United supporters feel a bit more confident about keeping Ronaldo, after hearing it straight from SAF? Or were you certain the Portuguese winger would be at the club next season anyway?
