Fair play to Alvaro Arbeloa, who has pulled no punches when being asked about the Cristiano Ronaldo situation at Old Trafford. It doesn’t matter who Liverpool sign this summer, no player is going to have the same positive impact for the Reds as the negative impact felt by Manchester United if the Portuguese forward does indeed leave Old Trafford.
The Press Association reports that the Spanish defender surely speaks on behalf of Liverpool fans everywhere by stating how he hopes Ronaldo is playing in the white of Real Madrid come August.
“I would be delighted if Ronaldo leaves and more so if it is to my former team,” said the Liverpool right-back on Tuesday.
“If he leaves, Manchester United would lose the best player in the world.
“Let’s hope Real Madrid make an effort,” joked Arbeloa. “For me it would be fantastic, I would thank them.”
Would the departure of the Red Devils number seven, along with the potential exit of Lampard and Drogba from Chelsea, along with the supposed departure of Hleb and Adebayor from Arsenal, leave the way clear for Liverpool to challenge for the Premier League until at least February next season. Or is that just wishful thinking?!
