There’s no doubting that both clubs could do with some extra firepower ahead of next season, but which one will win the ‘race’ to sign this talented forward?
Johan Elmander played pretty pretty well for Sweden during Euro 2008, despite being stuck out on the right-wing to allow Larsson and Ibrahimovic to have a final hurrah as the central pairing. He looked powerful and difficult to shackle, something which would be great for the likes of Bolton and Fulham, if indeed either club are actually trying to sign him. The Daily Mirror reports that this is the case and who are we to question this bastion of honesty and integrity?!
Bolton hope to clinch the record £11million capture of Sweden’s Euro 2008 striker Johan Elmander before the end of the week – despite a late move from Fulham.
Boss Gary Megson is confident he will pull off the coup after a price was agreed with French side Toulouse – and he met the powerful forward, who would be Wanderers’ most costly player.
Fulham were alerted to news that the deal was close yesterday and tried to step in.
But the signs are that Elmander is giving Bolton serious consideration as he plots his next move.
Looks like the Wanderers are in pole position then. This would obviously go some way to replacing Nicolas Anelka, who departed the Reebok in January. He’ll certainly be on my shortlist for fantasy football, especially as he’s bound to be a guaranteed starter for the Trotters once they see him in action.
