The latest word on the street is that Aston Villa are going to dig their heels in over Gareth Barry, but if he does eventually leave for Anfield, Martin O’Neill will have drowned his sorrows by bagging this ex-Arsenal man.
The Sun reckons that Martin O’Neill will shortly bag Chelsea’s Steve Sidwell, thus leaving the way open for Gareth Barry to go to Liverpool.
GARETH BARRY’S dream Liverpool deal moved a step closer last night as Aston Villa swooped for £5million Steve Sidwell.
Chelsea flop Sidwell is set to join Villa on a three-year contract worth £45,000 a week.
And that could pave the way for Villa skipper Barry, 27, to finally complete an Anfield switch.
Liverpool had a second offer for the England ace — believed to be £13m — rejected last week.
But Villa are bracing themselves for a £15m bid from the Merseysiders after Barry told manager Martin O’Neill he is desperate to join the Kop. (The Sun)
With this interminable transfer saga set to finally end, is this £15m spent wisely by Rafa Benitez?
