If money was no object, then the tabloids would have you believe that £300m could be invested in new arrivals at Anfield. However, this target could apparently only need a little persuading to become a feared strike partner for El Nino!
Rafa Benitez could persuade David Villa to sign for Liverpool, according to the striker’s Spanish team-mate Carlos Marchena. (Mail on Sunday)
Liverpool is the preferred destination of Euro 2008’s four-goal sensation David Villa as the mad scramble for his services next season kicks off.
Kop boss Rafa Benitez has already tried to sign the Spain striker TWICE and the prospect of playing for a Spanish coach alongside Spain team-mate Fernando Torres has left Villa, who hit Spain’s winner against Sweden yesterday, dreaming of joining the Anfield armada. (News of the World)
David Villa’s stock has risen immeasurably after his exploits in Spain’s first two matches at Euro 2008. Clearly Valencia would be loath to sell the 26-year-old lethal finisher, but they have slapped a transfer fee of £30m on his shoulders so if he does leave the Mestalla the La Liga club will be well compensated! He is wanted man and having Fernando Torres on the books can only help the club in such a bid, and I guess then it only comes down to money and ambition. Clearly Liverpool are an ambitious club that are moving in the right direction, all they need are the funds to challenge the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea. Do Liverpool fans think that such a move is even remotely possible or should Rafa concentrate on finding a cheaper option?
