With Mathieu Flamini walking away from the club, Alex Hleb likely to follow and persistent rumours about Cesc Fabregas leaving, it must be a worrying time for Arsenal fans.
The latest rumour is that Carles Puyol will be used as part of a deal that will see Barcelona capture the signature ofFabregas.
Barcelona will offer Arsenal their star defender Carles Puyol in a bid to land Cesc Fabregas. (Daily Star).
I imagine that should such a deal be struck, a rather large sum of money would still find its way to north London as Puyol is nowhere near comparible to Fabregas. He’s 30 and over-rated, while Fabregas is still only 21 and a fantastic talent.
If Arsenal want to succeed domestically, never mind in Europe, they need to cling on to Fabregas whatever the cost. What would be the point in moving him to a rival European club and taking a player that same club have deemed as dispensable? Taking Puyol in place of Fabregas is hardly going to help Arsenal to reach the level Barcelona current sit at.
With the William Gallas – Kolo Toure partnership hardly rock solid, I do think a new central defender would be a good idea for Arsenal but I doubt it will be Puyol and I definitely think that it should not be Puyol. I would have thought looking at a player who is up and coming would be a better idea. Of course that’s the way Mr Wenger normally sees it, too.
What are the Arsenal fans’ thoughts on the prospect of signing Puyol?
