Birmingham City could only draw 1-1 with fellow relegation battlers Newcastle United at St. Andrew’s in the Premiership on Monday night and remain in 16th, just 2 points ahead of 18th place Bolton Wanderers.
But Blues manager Alex McLeish is defiant that Birmingham will survive in the top flight this season and refuses to press the panic button just yet:
I think Newcastle deserved something for their second-half performance after the first half had belonged to us.
We couldn’t get the second goal that would have given us some breathing space.
Newcastle have many influential players and they caused us problems in the second half but we are continuing to pick up points.
At the end of the season, points like this might be like gold dust and we are difficult to beat at home.
Yet you get the feeling that Birmingham will be battling for survival come the end of the season.
