Yesterday we brought you news that Pompey striker Kanu could be swanning off to Australia to play for Gold Coast Galaxy, an antipodean tributary of the LA Galaxy. Today we are proud to bring you an update, yesterday’s story was a metaphorical Cleveland steamer and has been utterly rubbished by none other than ‘Arry Redknapp. ‘Arry said:
‘If he wants to go I wouldn’t stand in Kanu’s way. You don’t want unhappy players and I’ve never tried to keep them here.
‘But I think talk of Australia is just a lot of cobblers, though. I think he wants to stay here. The lad seems to be happy and I don’t want him to go anywhere. He has been terrific for me.
‘He is out of contract at the end of the season but I want him to stay here – and I think he wants to stay.’
ESPN reports that Kanu is currently on 18 appearances for the south coast club this season and if he gets to twenty appearances a contract extension clause will become available, offering Kanu the chance to stay for another year.
