Tottenham Hotspur are really finding it tough with goalkeepers. With Paul Robinson already sent into exile by manager Juande Ramos, Radek Cerny is the only one in whom the Spaniard has put his faith but even he is now under pressure.
Cerny made a howler against Slavia Prague during the UEFA Cup clash on Wednesday and, although Spurs won 2-1, the press and the fans didn’t ingore Cerny’s blunder when he dropped a high cross from David Hubacek to allow David Strihavka to equalize.
But this time Ramos is sticking to his custodian. The former Sevilla coach says:
The mistakes can always happen, that is the world of football. This time it was the turn of Cerny. It’s quite possible that he seemed really nervous after the goal, more than normal. It must be very difficult for him to be at his home ground to play against his former club.
Kind words indeed from the otherwise ruthless Ramos. But Cerny, you better watch out in your next game for Spurs. Any mistake and the manager might well pull himself out of supporting you.
