Bastions of truth, honour, and journalistic integrity The Sun, are today breathlessly reporting details of the whopper of a contract that Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is set to sign. According to Sun journo Andrew Dillon, Cesc’s pay will rise from, a frankly paltry, £50,000 a week, to a far more respectable £80,000 a week under the terms of his new contract – which if signed will commit Fabregas to the club until 2016.
When talking of this new contract, Fabregas simultaneously rejected the rumours that he is off to Barca, Cesc said:
“I have a contract until 2014 but I have been speaking to Arsenal and they want to renegotiate it.”
“I want to succeed at Arsenal and that the club wants me is fundamental for me.
“I am proud to be linked to Barcelona. I am from the city and have played there.
“But now I only think of winning as many titles as possible here at Arsenal.”
If signed, this new contract extension will be hugely important for this young Arsenal side, and the chances of keeping the nucleus of the team together for the foreseeable future.
