Atletico Madrid travel to the Reebok Stadium to confront Premiership strugglers Bolton Wanderers in a UEFA Cup tie on Thursday. The match will also mark the return of Atletico’s Uruguyan international striker Diego Forlan to the ground where he made his debut for his former club Manchester United way back in 2002.
Forlan is in a rich vein of form since leaving Man United for Villarreal and this season he has been a key figure in Atleti’s run in La Liga. Atletico manager Javier Aguirre praises Forlan and says that since leaving the Premiership, the blond striker has actually become better.
Aguirre says:
Before he joined us he had three excellent seasons with Villarreal. He is enjoying this campaign and we are now seeing the best of him. Perhaps there is less pressure on him here than there was in England.
Atletico are of course favourits for this UEFA Cup tie and Forlan may as well score at the Reebok on Thursday evening.
