It had an air of the inevitable about it. No sooner had Wigan striker Emile Heskey put a string of appearances together for his team, thus earning an England call-up as a result, injury strikes once again. The Daily Telegraph report that the former Liverpool and Birmingham player will not be adding to his 45 caps on Wednesday, leaving Fabio Capello short of striking options once again.
Bruce confirmed: “Emile has got a nerve problem and it’s a continuation of a big fella being out for two or three months. He’s had little strains and he’s not right. He’ll be pulling out.”
Many England fans won’t regard it as a huge loss, considering Heskey has scored just one goal all season. However, it appears that while Capello has a stockpile of defenders and midfielders from which to select, his attacking options are limited to Wayne Rooney, Peter Crouch and Gabriel Agbonlahor for the match against Switzerland.
