26-year old full back Maicon is one of the best players in the Italian Serie A and his club Inter Milan know that better than others and are therefore ready to keep the player in the blue-and-black half of Milan for a long time. Sky Sports has reported that Inter are ready to assign a new contract to the player even if he has still 3 years left on his current one.
The move comes after both FC Barcelona and Chelsea raised their interests in signing the player in the summer, if not this month. Barca are likely to lose full back Gianluca Zambrotta at the end of the season while Chelsea manager Avram Grant wants to strengthen his squad and instill more competition for first team places.
Talks over an extension to his contract with Inter Milan appear to have stalled in recent weeks but Inter are now eager to peter out all speculation linking Maicon to a move away from the San Siro. Inter are dominating the Serie A at the moment and are eyeing the UEFA Champions League silverware too. This should be more than enough to convince the Brazilian to keep his faith in Roberto Mancini and Inter Milan.
