Arsenal international aims eye-opening criticism at Gunners coaching, contemplates future abroad

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has aimed a thinly veiled dig at Arsene Wenger and his coaching staff at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking to Il Tempo, the Polish stopper—who has spent the 2015-16 season on loan at AS Roma—has insisted that he learned a great deal under the guidance of Luciano Spalletti, who replaced French coach Rudi Garcia at the French campaign halfway through the Serie A season.

“I learnt more in four months under Spalletti than in 10 years in England,” Szczesny told the Italian source. “He puts a lot of importance on details and wants the goalkeeper to be able to play the ball with his feet.”

The Pole, whose future at the Emirates Stadium has been thrown into doubt following the successive arrivals of David Ospina and Petr Cech, has also revealed that he knows where he’ll be playing next term, while proceeding to outline the benefits of a return to Serie A.

“I know where I will play next year, but I can’t reveal it yet,” the 26-year-old continued. “If I stay at Roma, it’ll be an opportunity to grow and improve even more.

“If I return to Arsenal, I’ll make use of my experience in Italy.”

Szczesny had an up and down campaign in the Italian capital, with a few underwhelming campaigns coming alongside a series of outstanding showings.

His endeavour between the sticks helped Roma to a top three finish in the Italian top flight, with Spalletti’s outfit having secured a return to the Champions League after ending the campaign with five straight wins.
