Tottenham eye deadline-day transfer swoop for glittering Ligue 1 attacker

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a last-minute transfer swoop for LOSC Lille forward Sofiane Boufal.

The Franco-Moroccan attacker has been one of the stars of the Ligue 1 season so far, despite a muted beginning to the campaign for LOSC Lille. He found the net on Saturday as Les Dogues beat new boys Gazelec Ajaccio to win their first match of the season—and get off the mark in front of goal.

Despite his side’s struggles, Boufal has impressed, demonstrating a remarkable capacity to unsettle defences with his dribbling ability, his pace and his magnificent touches with the ball.

According to Canal+ [via Le 10 Sport], the 21-year-old is being targeted by Tottenham, who are considering a move for the talented young attacker ahead of the end of the transfer window.

However, speaking to L’Equipe [also via Le 10 Sport], the forward has indicated that it would be too soon to leave Lille, having only arrived at the club five months ago.

“In my head, normally, I will be at LOSC,” he began.

“My objective is to have a full season, to continue to progress. It’s hard to see myself leave after only five months. They have confidence in me here.”

Spurs have struggled in front of goal this season; they drew a blank against Manchester United in their Premier League opener, and could only manage a 0-0 stalemate with Everton at the weekend. Boufal boasts the ingenuity and the invention to prise open Premier League defences and, potentially, to get the best out of Harry Kane once again.
