Chelsea are understood to be considering a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann and are considering the Eagles defender as a potential long-term successor to skipper John Terry.

The former England captain has endured a tough season; not only was he dropped under Jose Mourinho [Telegraph], but he has also been a key member in a Blues team that is enduring a miserable campaign and remain rooted in the bottom half of the table.

However, the 35-year-old demonstrated his importance once again with a late equalising goal in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Everton on Satuday, and he will surely be a hard act to follow at Stamford Bridge when he does finally hang up his boots.

The Pensioners may have found their man, and, according to the Mirror, are understood to be considering Dann as a long-term successor for JT after having scouted the defender in almost all of his matches so far this season.

While the Scouser earns £60,000 at Crystal Palace currently, the tabloid reports that Chelsea would be in a position to double his earnings.

At 27, Dann likely has his best years as a centre-back still ahead of him, although while he is an experienced Premier League campaigner, it remains to be seen whether he could step up and adapt to the demands of Champions League football, which is the level at which Chelsea surely expect their signings to perform.
