The former Atletico Madrid man has a long history of injuries and has recently recovered from a serious knee problem that caused him to miss the World Cup.

The Colombian says he is relieved to now be at Old Trafford following a difficult year and reiterated his desire to remain at the Theatre of Dreams for the foreseeable future.

He said: “Manchester United were the ones that gambled when it was very difficult to do so. It has been a very difficult year, not just in my professional career.

“What happened at the start of the year [serious knee injury] affected me in every way, but it has also helped me grow as a human being, to think about many things, to mature.

“In terms of my thoughts and plans for the future, I want to stay at Manchester United for the coming years.”

United brought Falcao to Manchester on a season long loan deal from AS Monaco but there are various rumours that suggest there is an option to buy the striker at the end of the season if he impresses Louis van Gaal.
