Pep Guardiola accused of being more arrogant than rival Jose Mourinho

Zenit St Petersburg coach Mircea Lucescu has insisted that he believes Man City boss Pep Guardiola is more arrogant than Man United’s Jose Mourinho.

The 71-year-old will have experience of facing both men or at least crossing paths with them at some stage during his lengthy career, and has given his take on the pair.

Guardiola and Mourinho have never seen eye-to-eye following a testy rivalry during their time at Barcelona and Real Madrid, while they have reignited it this season having both started new jobs in Manchester.

Lucescu has given his thoughts on the pair, insisting that although he believes both men are great coaches, the perception of the duo is wrong.

“Mourinho is an amazing guy, but my way of understanding football is totally different because I have an offensive mentality,” he told Dolce Sport.

“All my teams have broken records for goals. Mourinho seems more arrogant than Guardiola but it is exactly the opposite.

“Either way, both are great coaches.”

Guardiola got the better of Mourinho in their first meeting of the season with a 2-1 win over United at Old Trafford last month, while the two teams will face off again on October 26 in the EFL Cup fourth round.

City sit top of the Premier League table after seven games with six wins and a draw, while it hasn’t been as smooth for Mourinho with his side in sixth place and five points adrift of their city rivals.
