Manchester United winger Nani admits he had offers to leave the club during the summer transfer window, but is happy to have signed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, Sky Sports reports.

The 26-year-old endured a frustrating campaign last year, failing to reach anywhere near his best form for United, and this had led to some speculation that the Red Devils would allow him to depart this summer.

Although inconsistent, Nani is known to be able to produce moments of individual brilliance, and this saw some big names linked with signing him in the transfer window, such as Juventus, Roma, Galatasaray and Monaco.

However, a few days after the passing of the transfer deadline, United moved to sign the Portuguese international up to a new five-year deal, with David Moyes playing a big part in persuading him to stay at the club.

“I am very content with my new deal at Manchester United,” he said. “This summer was not easy but after a lot of thought and talking to David Moyes I believe it was the best solution.

“I feel I can offer many things to United. I had other important offers but without a sufficient challenge to make me want to leave United.”

Nani knows, however, that he is not guaranteed to be first choice for the Premier League champions this year, but is happy to have the challenge of proving himself to his new manager.

He added: “The coach would not guarantee me a place in the XI more than any other player. I know I must work hard to get into this team.

“That is my objective for this season.”

Nani first joined United as a youngster from Sporting Lisbon for £17m back in 2007.
