Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels has said that “there is no sporting reason” why attacking midfielder Mario Gotze would leave the club and join European Champions Bayern Munich, Goal.com reports.

Bayern triggered Gotze £31.4 million buy-out clause in his contract with Dortmund and the player decided to leave the highly successful Dortmund side in favour of a move to the clubs arch-rivals.

Hummels is not happy with his former team-mates decision and hinted that money was the main factor behind Gotze’s move to Bayern.

I do not understand Gotze’s decision and I have told him just that. Everybody at Dortmund was surprised. This only further shows that this was never an issue,” the defender told Sport Bild.

“Everybody can see how good our team has become. I simply do not believe that there were any sporting reasons to leave BVB”.

Gotze is one of the most talented players in Germany at the moment and was a key figure in Dortmund’s title winning sides of 2011 and 2012 but will now line-up at Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.

Another Dortmund player that is itching to join Bayern Munich is striker Robert Lewandowski.

The Polish international has stated his desire to join Dortmund’s arch rivals but the club will not let him leave this summer so Lewandowski will have to wait until next season when he can join the European Champions on a free transfer.
