Barcelona wideman recommended La Liga rivals to Nou Camp reject

Speaking after his move from Barcelona to Valencia on Monday, Martin Montoya has revealed that his teammate Jordi Alba helped him choose Los Che.

The defender, who had previously been linked to Liverpool, had previously spent his whole senior career at Barca (excluding loan spells) but signed for Valencia on Monday, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter handle.

The 25-year-old agreed a four-year deal with the Liga BBVA outfit having failed to truly make the grade at the Nou Camp.

Once one of the jewels of La Masia, Montoya has represented Spain at all youth levels up to U21, but is yet to make the leap to the senior side.

Similarly, despite the departure of Dani Alves, Barca seemingly aren’t convinced that Montoya can be the answer at right-back.

However, the Spaniard appears excited by the prospect of a move to Valencia, particularly after a discussion with Barca teammate Jordi Alba.

“He told me it’s a great city, a great club and to enjoy it,” Montoya revealed, as per Mundo Deportivo, “and he wished me many congratulations.”
