South American Liverpool transfer target on the brink of signing contract

According to reports, Liverpool are set to miss out on the signing of Juventus star Martin Caceres.

The Reds  have been linked with a litany of defenders during the January transfer window, with the likes of Mats Hummels and Joel Matip both linked with a move to Anfield, particularly during the club’s high-profile injury crisis during the early part of the month.

With only Steven Caulker brought in to date, there has been intense speculation that another defender would be brought to Merseyside to bolster the club’s options in the backline.

One such target has been Caceres, the Uruguay international who previously featured for Barcelona, and who could fill in in any of the positions across the back four.

However, according to Goal, the defender is set to snub a possible switch to the Reds and extend his time at Juventus, with his agent Daniel Fonseca due to meet with the club’s officials in order to put pen to paper on a new deal in Turin.
