Luke Shaw has admitted that he’s feeling the pressure after his big-money move to Old Trafford. The former Southampton left-back has only started one game since his summer transfer, and has had problems off the field too.
“There’s a lot of pressure on me because I arrived here for a big fee and there’s attention that comes with that”, Shaw admitted in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
The pressure of the enormous £27m fee that Manchester United paid for Shaw was compounded by a stressful summer in Brazil with England, followed by well publicised criticism of his fitness by his manager.
Shaw bears no grudge against Van Gaal however: “He was right to say that. We had a discussion in pre-season and the plan was for me to get my fitness up. It worked”.
After regaining his fitness and recovering from a hamstring injury, Shaw made his first start for the club against West Ham, and will now be hoping to hold on to the left-back spot for Manchester United’s game against Everton on Sunday.
