Liverpool in contract talks with superb full-back finally back to fitness

After missing the entire 2014-15 season with a knee injury, Liverpool full-back Jon Flanagan finally made his return to the lineup in December 2015 and helped lead the team to a win over Stoke City in the League Cup semi-finals. Now healthy, Flanagan appears poised to get a renewed deal at Anfield.

According to the Metro, Jurgen Klopp expressed hope that the team could come to a new deal with Flanagan (aka ‘Flanno’) and plans to begin talks with the 23-year-old full-back in the coming days.

‘Of course Flanno’s situation is in my thinking,’ Klopp stated.

‘The best news is that he is back. After a long injury you always have to be careful. That’s how it is.

‘It’s not been too easy for Flanno. He has a lot of qualities but patience is not the biggest one. It’s been a long trip for him.

‘After a game he needs a day or two to recover. If it’s a hard session he has to stop. It’s not easy for him or perfect for us.

‘But of course Flanno is our boy and we will do everything, come together and hopefully reach a positive solution for both sides.

‘There will be a few talks and then we will see what happens.’

Flanagan has just one season with ten or more appearances – making 23 Premier League starts in the 2013-14 season after making just 15 in the previous three years combined.

Per the source, Flanno also has the support of star midfielder Jordan Henderson, who has lobbied for the Reds to re-sign him.
