The Metro confirms that United are yet to offer De Gea a new contract, with Madrid set to take advantage with a bid at the end of the season. The 24-year-old has arguably been the stand-out player at Old Trafford so far this season, with many important saves.
He has helped Louis van Gaal’s side rise to third place in the Premier League table, as they chase a quick return to Champions League football, having missed out on a top four finish last year under David Moyes.
De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has since made 154 appearances in all competitions. It has been suggested by some sources that the stopper will be used in part-exchange for Madrid star Gareth Bale, although reports in the Daily Mail suggest this would be an unpopular decision among the United fans.
Bale joined the Spanish giants from Tottenham in the summer of 2013, winning both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League in his first season at the club – scoring in both finals.
