Following Mexico striker Alan Pulido‘s escape from kidnappers in his homeland, local officials have shed light on the forward’s ordeal and revealed how he got free.

The 25-year-old Olympiakos striker was snatched from outside his home in Ciudad Victoria—in Tamaulipas state—at gunpoint on Saturday evening, as captors took the forward while leaving his girlfriend behind.

Speaking to Imagen radio, State prosecutor Ismael Quintanilla has narrated the forward’s ordeal and explained—in detail—how he managed to seize the initiative and escape.

The international escaped after fighting off one of his kidnappers, before using his phone to call the authorities and secure his safety.

The forward ultimately had to punch through a glass door—slashing his wriest in the process—before police arrived to liberate him and arrest a 38-year-old.

Pulido—who was named in Mexico’s squad for the 2014 World Cup—began his career with UANL, before moving to Greek side Levadiakos.
