Liverpool beat West Ham United 5-1 in the Carabao Cup to book their place in the next round.

The Reds continued their impressive start to the season with Arne Slot’s team performing well in all the competitions they have participated in.

The are second in the Premier League behind Manchester City while their Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns have started with convincing wins in both the competitions.

They brushed aside Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham side at Anfield last night but not without controversy.

The Hammers manager has pointed out to Diogo Jota’s equaliser in the first half. The Spaniard has claimed Cody Gakpo was offside in the build up to the goal and the replay backed his claim.

However, with VAR not used in the early rounds of the Carabao Cup, nothing could be done about that and it worked massively against West Ham.

Speaking to Sky Sports after full-time, Lopetegui said:

“They scored an offside goal. We suffered the first goal.”

Liverpool got a favourable decision against West Ham United

The massive defeat is another blow for West Ham and Lopetegui, who have had a disastrous start to the season.

The West Ham manager was expected to change the fortunes of the team this season after making a number of new signings this summer and splashing the cash.

However, it has worked completely against the Premier League club. They are currently 14th in the league and none of their new signings have performed well so far.

Lopetegui is absolutely spot on about the decision that went against his side at Anfield.

The use of VAR only starts in the latter rounds in this competition, when all the teams involved have the ability to host the system.

It goes from bad to worse for Lopetegui but it was another match that showed that Slot’s Liverpool side are in brilliant form and their attack is unstoppable at the moment.
