Jon Flanagan has not travelled with Liverpool for their pre-season tour to America.
The Liverpool Echo understands this is because the Reds defender is weighing up whether or not to join Premier League new boys Burnley on loan for the 2016-17 season.
Flanagan has barely played for the past two years because of injury, and he could not usurp either Moreno or Nathaniel Clyne when he returned to fitness last term.
According to the Echo, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp feels that a season of regular football might be what Flanagan needs to rediscover his form of the 2013-14 campaign.
The Echo adds that Klopp has given the full-back the option of going on loan to Burnley, and he sat out last night’s 2-0 friendly win over Huddersfield to decide whether he wants to join the Clarets or fight for his place at Anfield, where he has been on the books for over a decade.
Flanagan’s immediate future seems clearer this morning, with Liverpool having jetted off to America for the latest leg of their thorough pre-season preparations without him.
