Liverpool have been told top pay the asking price of £25 million up-front if they are to sign Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United according to The Mirror.
The report states that Wijnaldum is eager to return to the Premier League after his side were relegated last season however, Newcastle are unwilling to let their star asset leave for a cut price.
Liverpool edged ahead in the race to sign the Netherlands international after Tottenham pulled out of the race.
The report goes onto say that while Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino remains a huge fan of the star midfielder, he is uncomfortable with Newcastle’s asking price.
Wijnaldum made the move to Newcastle from the Dutch side PSV Eindhoven last season for £14.5million and Newcastle are looking to to make a significant profit on their investment.
The 25-year-old was one of Newcastle’s few bright sparks last season scored 11 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season.
