Paul Pogba’s agent has reportedly arrived in England in order to move closer to reaching an agreement over his transfer to Manchester United.
The Frenchman has been linked with a return to Old Trafford all summer, and it appears as though there is a possibility he could be edging closer to completing a move.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, United are preparing to launch a ‘decisive assault’ for the 23-year-old, with Raiola flying out to Manchester in order to finalise a deal reportedly worth a staggering €125m.
The pink paper claims that Pogba’s move to the Premier League will have a direct impact on Juve’s pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain, as they will be armed with the finances required to sign the Argentine forward this summer.
Higuain has a €94.7m release clause in his contract, and with Napoli refusing to accept an exchange deal, the Bianconeri need to come up with the cash to complete a deal.
Losing Pogba will undoubtedly be a major blow to the Serie A champions, as the former French ace has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Europe since his move to Turin in 2012.
However, if true, Raiola’s trip to Manchester is the biggest indication yet that the two parties are serious about agreeing terms, and it will be a blow to Real Madrid who remain interested in Pogba.
Zinedine Zidane conceded this week that he was an admirer of his compatriot, but it looks as though he’ll have to make do without him next season and look elsewhere to bolster his squad.
As for United, Jose Mourinho could be about to add his fourth new face to the squad this summer, with Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all already signing for the Red Devils since the arrival of the former Chelsea boss.
Adding Pogba would ultimately reinforce the entire spine of the team, and would allow United to take another important step towards getting back to the top of English football. Time will tell whether or not Raiola’s reported trip to Manchester bears fruit.
