Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Augsburg centre-back Ragnar Klavan.
According to the Guardian the Reds have agreed a £4.2 million fee with the Bundesliga club for the Estonia international.
The report stated that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his options in defence following achilles injuries to both Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez. The Red’s also recently offloaded Martin Skrtel to Fenerbahce and released Kolo Toure.
Klavan caught the attention of Liverpool’s scouts during the Liverpool v Augsburg Europa League clash last season which the Merseysiders won 1-0 on aggregate.
Liverpool boss Klopp currently has just two fit defenders – Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren – to choose between. Matip has however suffered an ankle injury during the Red’s pre-season friendly win over Wigan on Sunday.
Following the game Jurgen Klopp stated that Matip was “fine” but is still on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.
Klavan made 40 appearances in all competitions for for Augsburg last season.
