Manchester City seem eager to complete a deal for Schalke 04 starlet Leroy Sane, but appear to have hit a not-so-slight snag in their efforts to bring the young winger to the Etihad.
According to Sun Sport, Schalke 04 sporting director Christian Heidel has stated that they will only consider selling Sane if the German starlet submits a transfer request to the club. However, Heidel stopped short of guaranteeing they would sell Sane even if the request went through to them.
“Leroy has not told us that he wants to leave Schalke for now,” Heidel said.
“If that were to happen, interested clubs could approach us to discuss a move.
“If Leroy wants a transfer, we will make a quick decision on what happens. I want to emphasise it is our decision.
“It is important that our plans for 2016-17 are not affected by it.”
Per the source, Man City are lining up a bid of £40 million for the 20-year-old winger, but he is still under contract through 2019.
Sane had a breakout season for Schalke 04 this past year, scoring eight goals and six assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances. He was featured in Germany’s Euro 2016 side, but made just one appearance as a late substitute the 2-0 loss to France.
Man City have already completed the signing of four players this summer, bringing Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Aaron Mooy and Oleksandr Zinchenko into the fold for new manager Pep Guardiola.
