England forward Raheem Sterling was targeted on Twitter during their game against Wales on Thursday after another poor performance.
Roy Hodgson’s men trailed their rivals 1-0 at the break after Gareth Bale’s free-kick, but staged a stunning comeback after the interval with substitutes Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge grabbing the goals.
It would have only served to add further calls for Sterling to be benched against Slovakia though, as he followed his disappointing display against Russia with another against the Welsh and was replaced after the opening 45 minutes.
England’s win lifts them to the top of Group B with four points though, while Wales remain on three along with Slovakia as Russia remain rooted to the bottom with one point ahead of the final group games next week.
Sterling really needs to show something. Poor v #RUS and looks nervy & tight so far v #WAL

I think that in ten years’ time, Raheem Sterling’s best moment in an England shirt could be that time he hit the side netting against Italy

Maybe these glasses are making him blind and not see how awful Sterling is?? pic.twitter.com/sXDMXFa3VE

Gary Cahill has more England goals in fewer games than Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana combined
