Leicester City star N’Golo Kante is reportedly edging closer to a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, with Arsenal and Chelsea set to miss out.
The Premier League winner enjoyed a stellar campaign last year, playing an integral role in Claudio Ranieri side’s success with his combative displays in the middle of the park.
However, as with many of the Foxes’ star names, he has been linked with an exit this summer, with the Metro suggesting that both Arsenal and Chelsea are keen on signing the French international.
While he prepares for Euro 2016 with Les Bleus, Kante could well sort out his club future before the tournament gets underway on June 10, although it’s more likely that he’ll do so after it finishes with PSG now seemingly closing in on the move but still some way from reaching a deal.
The Ligue 1 champions have offered him a five-year contract after another meeting was held between the 25-year-old’s representatives and club officials this week, as reported by Le Parisien.
PSG won’t have any trouble in meeting the €25m release clause in his contract, and so it appears as though he could well be moving on despite Ranieri hoping for his current squad to stay together for at least one season as they prepare for the Champions League next year.
While Leicester are now set to suffer another major blow, it will also be a disappointment for both Arsenal and Chelsea who will have to switch their attention elsewhere in their search for midfield reinforcements this summer.
Nevertheless, given the Gunners acquired Granit Xhaka last month, it’s debatable as to whether they would require another man in midfield given the options already at Arsene Wenger’s disposal.
In contrast, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is still prioritising a midfielder in the transfer market, with his efforts so far failing to bear fruit.
