Speculation is continuing to suggest that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is on the verge of signing for Arsenal in a £20m deal, with a huge contract offer said to be on the table.
As noted by various media outlets on Friday, the Gunners had reportedly triggered the £20m release clause in the England international’s contract.
In turn, they would then be open to discuss personal terms with the striker, and according to Football Insider, they are set to offer him a deal worth £120,000 per week.
It now remains to be seen whether or not Vardy chooses to move to London after inspiring the Foxes to the Premier League title this past season, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger desperate to end their long wait to sign a forward capable of scoring 20-plus goals a year.
Vardy scored 24 goals for Claudio Ranieri’s men last season, while in contrast, both Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott failed to reach those levels with Arsenal eventually finishing in second place in the standings.
However, Vardy must now make a bitterly difficult decision as he will either show his loyalty and desire to remain with Leicester or choose to make the jump and further his career with Arsenal who arguably offer him better long-term assurances of playing at the top level and competing for trophies every season.
Wenger has already made a statement with his big-money signing of Granit Xhaka last month, and it appears as though he is ready to throw caution to the wind this summer and significantly strengthen his squad to ease the growing discontent at the club and ensure that they remain competitive.
