Diego Simeone‘s future at Atletico Madrid could depend on whether the club sign Chelsea forward Diego Costa.
According to the Daily Star, the Argentine coach is considering his options at the Spanish capital in light of Saturday’s Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid.
Simeone has overseen an incredible improvement at Atleti since taking over in 2011, but his side have fallen short in the final hurdle of the European Cup, being beaten already by their fierce city rivals in 2014 ahead of the weekend’s latest disappointment.
According to the tabloid, Simeone is prepared to stay at the club, but only if he’s backed in the transfer market, with the coach keen on signing a high-profile forward.
The Star note that Costa—who was overlooked for Spain’s European Championship squad and thus has an empty summer ahead of him—is Simeone’s No. 1 target.
The tabloid anticipate that the Pensioners should be expecting an offer for the attacker, who joined them from Atleti in 2014.
