Chelsea have been quoted a fee for River Plate defender and Argentina international Emanuel Hernan Mammana ahead of a potential summer transfer swoop.

According to Goal, the Blues have been holding talks with the player’s representative Hernan Reguera this week, and the agent has informed the club that they will be able to sign the youngster for £8 million.

While the Pensioners appear to be in pole position to sign the defender—with discussions in London ongoing—the west Londoners face competition for the youngster’s signature, with the website reporting that Fiorentina and Inter Milan are also understood to be keen on his services.

Goal also report that the youngster—who is under contract until June 2019—has a release clause of £11 million, although River would clearly accept lower in order to speed up a potential deal.

Versatile Mammana has made his name as a talented central defender—able of stopping attacks as well as starting them from the backline—although he is also capable of featuring at full-back.

The youngster made his Argentina debut in June 2014, having replaced a former River alumni Javier Mascherano.
