With the centre-back position proving to be a liability for Liverpool at crucial junctions, one can assume that Jurgen Klopp will be working round the clock to strengthen the position in his first summer at the helm. Among his targets this summer are Barcelona defender Marc Bartra, who is seeking a move after years with limited games.
According to the Metro via L’Esportiu, Liverpool have an interest in the 25-year-old Barcelona centre-back – and the interest appears to be mutual. Per the source, Bartra is “positive about the prospect” of moving to Liverpool after a seven-year spell at Barcelona that has included precious few reps for the La Liga giants.
If Bartra does make the move to Anfield this summer, he could easily replace either the aging Martin Skrtel or embattled star Mamadou Sakho.
Bartra has been used sparingly for the majority of his seven-year tenure with Barcelona, making just eight appearances from the 2009-10 to 2011-12 season before really breaking into the lineup in the 2013-14 season. In the past three seasons Bartra has made 47 appearances and scored four goals for the first-team.
