Arsenal have officially launched their new Puma kit for the 2016/17 season, with Alexis Sanchez being handed the iconic No.7 jersey.
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that the Chilean international was unsettled at the Emirates, with a whole host of European giants lining up to take advantage of any discontent and swoop for him this summer.
However, based on the fact that he’s featured in Arsenal’s kit launch and has been handed a new number that has historical importance at the club, it suggests that Sanchez doesn’t intend on going anywhere this summer.
Having worn No.17 last season, the former Udinese star has gone back to his old number which was vacated by Tomas Rosicky who will leave the Emirates this summer with his contract set to expire.
Given that the likes of Liam Brady, David Rocastle and Robert Pires have donned the No.7 jersey previously, it’s a big move for Sanchez who will now look to put the disappointment of this season behind him and help lead the Gunners to success next year.
Santi Cazorla was also amongst those to show off the new kit on Twitter, with Arsenal supporters hoping that the fresh look gives them fresh impetus on the pitch next season.
Arsene Wenger will be expected to be a busy man in the summer transfer market, with Arsenal falling short in their bid to win the Premier League this season, and ultimately ending up empty-handed after another disappointing campaign that fell short of expectations.
