“It’s over,” Louis van Gaal told a Sky Sports reporter this morning as he left Manchester United’s hotel on the morning after delivering them a first FA Cup triumph in 12 years.

Van Gaal can be heard saying “it’s over” as he walks past the press in the below video, with James Cooper going on to confirm the Dutchman’s words amid reports over his imminent exit.

As Sky Sports reports, a Manchester United spokesperson has claimed that Van Gaal was referring to the end of the season, but, given the circumstances, we find that difficult to believe.

United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley, courtesy of Jesse Lingard’s extra-time winner, was somewhat overshadowed by speculation that Jose Mourinho is poised to replace him.

According to BBC Sport, the former Chelsea boss will be appointed as Red Devils boss next week, with United making a change after Van Gaal failed to qualify for the Champions League.
