Atletico Madrid hero Saul Niguez has urged Real Madrid to prove their superiority in the Champions League final at the end of the month.
The Atleti wideman—one of the revelations of the Spanish season—has thrown down the gauntlet to the Merengues ahead of their meeting in the continental showpiece on May 28.
“If Real Madrid are superior, they have to prove it on the field,” Niguez began, speaking to Radio Marca. “The final is a rematch from Lisbon, an opportunity to make history,” he added.
“We’re looking forward to the match, and to winning it.”
The two rivals tussled memorably during the recently concluded Spanish season, with Atleti defeating their bitter enemies in the league at the end of February.
It was a defeat that cost Real dearly, with Zinedine Zidane’s side ultimately missing out on the league title by just one point.
