The Mirror have reported that Manchester United have decided to cut ties with Louis van Gaal this summer, regardless of what the Dutch manager can achieve between now and the season’s end.
The tabloid proceed to note that the Red Devils hierarchy are already considering their vision for the future, which is understood to involve deposed Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho.
Van Gaal has wholly failed to build on the promise of his maiden season at Old Trafford, where he appeared to be beginning to erase the bitter failure of David Moyes’s brief stint at the club by returning the Red Devils to the Champions League.
However, they failed to build on that success, and after being dumped out of the European Cup in the group stage this season, currently sit in fifth place, and need to improve over the coming weeks to unseat Manchester City and claim the final UCL qualifying spot.
Despite beating West Ham United in Tuesday evening’s FA Cup quarter-final replay to advance to the semi-finals, the Mirror believe that United’s chiefs have decided to part ways with LVG at the season’s end.
