Kevin De Bruyne has described how Manchester City attempted to sweeten him up ahead of signing him from Wolfsburg during the summer.

The Belgian playmaker moved to the Etihad Stadium for an eye-watering fee of £55 million [fee via BBC Sport], committing to the Sky Blues on a six-year deal.

De Bruyne moved for a club-record fee, and while he arrived as part of a high-profile selection of signings including the likes of Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Otamendi and Fabian Delph, the former Chelsea midfielder has arguably outshined the lot.

Having contributed 20 assists and scored 10 goals last season, as Wolfsburg ended as runners-up in the German top flight, De Bruyne has managed six goals and nine assists in the Premier League, despite enduring injury concerns this season.

Speaking ahead of City’s league game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, De Bruyne has revealed how the Sky Blues seduced him ahead of his summer switch.

“I think the thing that most gave me confidence at that particular time was that they were busy trying to contact me,” the midfielder began, as per Sky Sports.

“They called every day until the day that I signed here. They pushed for me to come and for me that gave me a great sign that they were interested and that I could be important over here.

“I’ve only been here for just over six months but the way I integrated went really well and straight away I felt really good in the team and I think you saw that from the beginning on the pitch.”
