Within the first 20 minutes of the Chelsea vs West Ham United match, Manuel Lanzini had made his case for Goal of the Week with a stunning free kick goal that hit the top right corner from a very difficult angle, giving the Hammers a 1-0 lead.
But the old saying ‘Anything you can do, I can do better’ must have have been on Cesc Fabregas‘s mind as he set up to take a long free kick on a free kick attempt of his own that slipped past the outstretched arm of Adrian to equalize right before the first half.
There was some serious worry at Stamford Bridge in the second half as veteran forward Andy Carroll charged past the entire defense to isolate Thibaut Courtois one-on-one for an easy goal he slipped past.
However, Fabregas proved to be the hero again as he was awarded a penalty kick attempt after Ruben Loftus-Cheek was fouled late in the game. He easily converted the shot and equalized at 2-2.
Fabregas’s incredible performance – and first brace of the season – helped Chelsea remain undefeated in the Premier League since Jose Mourinho was fired and kept their Champions/Europa League hopes alive.
