Arsenal outcast Mathieu Debuchy has confirmed that Manchester United made an attempt to sign him during the closing hours of the January transfer window, the Daily Star reports.
The Red Devils were keen to add more experience to their back line during the window, and decided to make a late approach for the 30-year-old.
And now the player himself has confirmed that Louis van Gaal had tried to bring him to Old Trafford on loan for the rest of the season, only it was too late to press ahead and he instead headed back to France to join Bordeaux.
“Yes, at the end of the transfer window they came in,” he said on the supposed interest from United.
“They contacted my agents. I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent.
“Unfortunately it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival.”
