Memphis Depay‘s performance has been a far cry from what Manchester United were expecting when they shelled out over £24 million for the Dutch star. After almost single-handedly costing them a win over Chelsea on Sunday, Louis van Gaal has seen enough and has sent his former Netherlands ace to the Under-21 squad.
Manchester United posted their Under-21 lineup for their match against Norwich City, and Depay was featured in the lineup for his first time since joining the club this summer.

Depay committed a major gaffe in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea when he passed the ball backwards in their own box – allowing Chelsea striker Diego Costa to capitalize and score an easy equalizer to steal a 1-0 lead from the Red Devils and only netted a point from the contest.
A star with PSV Eindhoven, Louis van Gaal made Depay a key member of his 2014 World Cup squad back when he managed the Netherlands. After a third-place finish in the tournament, Depay went on to lead Eredivisie in goals scored in the 2014-15 season, ultimately earning a big-bucks deal to sign for Man United in the 2015 summer transfer window.
