Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has struggled to live up to the incredible amount of money the Reds paid to free him from Aston Villa, but he always seems to get the goal when you least expect it.
Going into the half against Sunderland, Liverpool were still shocked that opposing goalkeeper Vito Mannone had managed to get a save on Roberto Firmino’s most perfectly place shot of the day. But Benteke reminded everyone in the stands why he was one of the hottest strikers in football last year with this incredible shot past Mannone to take a 1-0 lead over the Black Cats.
The goal is Benteke’s sixth of the season and second straight game with a goal – he scored the lone goal in Liverpool’s 1-0 upset win over Leicester City. He also scored a goal in the Europa League group stage in a 2-1 win over Bordeaux.
Liverpool acquired Benteke in a massive transfer deal with Aston Villa over the summer. Last season Benteke scored 13 Premier League goals and helped the team reach the FA Cup Final.
