Sneijder in action for Galatasaray

Amid intense speculation that he is set to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho’s possible first signing has been revealed.

According to The Sun, the Portuguese tactician has already decided that if he is to get the job at Old Trafford, he plans on making big changes to the squad assembled by Van Gaal.

It is claimed that the 52-year-old will immediately target Wesley Sneijder, with the Dutch playmaker playing a crucial role for the former Chelsea boss during their time together at Inter.

Having won the treble in 2010 with Sneijder emerging as one of the leaders of Mourinho’s side with countless influential performances, it is no surprise that the pair would be keen on working together again.

After leaving Inter for Galatasaray in 2013, Mourinho evidently believes that the Dutch international still has plenty to offer both on and off the pitch.

While the experienced midfielder may well be on the decline in a playing sense, it is suggested that he would be a significant presence in the dressing room in terms of giving Mourinho an immediate ally among the rest of the squad.

Despite struggling with his own poor form this season which led to his dismissal at Stamford Bridge, the former Inter boss has immediately been linked with United as Van Gaal comes under mounting pressure to turn things around and get results.

Back-to-back defeats to Bournemouth and Norwich City have seen the Red Devils slip out of the Premier League top four, and combined with their early elimination from the Champions League, time is certainly running out for the Dutchman.
