Arsenal are back in the Premier League driver’s seat thanks to back-to-back wins over Sunderland and Aston Villa. As for their Champions League hopes, the Gunners made it back to the Round of 16 thanks to a rally in the final few match days to overtake Olympiacos and claim the last spot in the round. While many will credit the incredible scoring prowess of Olivier Giroud or the assist-wizardry of Mesut Ozil, one Arsenal player credited Petr Cech with the team’s big turnaround.
According to the Metro, Theo Walcott believes that Cech has completely changed the team and has transformed the Gunners back four into a better unit.
‘From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was after what he achieved at Chelsea,’ Walcott said in a recent interview.
‘On a personal level for him it’s great. He’s changed us completely in that back four. He’s a talker, he believes in us all.
‘That’s why he wanted to join us and having that presence behind you is always nice to have. He’s very commanding, he’s a leader in the dressing room as well, he always likes to talk.’
Cech tied the Premier League record for clean sheets during this past week’s win over Aston Villa and has six on the season since joining the club.
The star goalkeeper joined Arsenal in a big transfer from Chelsea this past summer after losing his starting job to Thibaut Courtois last season.
