Barcelona megastar Lionel Messi is reportedly open to a move to Manchester City that would see him earn a record breaking £800,000-per-week, according to The Sun.
Messi has been rumoured to be unhappy at the Nou Camp recently, and has considered quitting the club in order to seal a big money move to the Premier League.
And Messi’s representatives have had initial discussions about joining City which could see the 28-year-old sign a deal worth around £40million a year.
The Argentine international would pocket around £32million, with the rest being paid via image rights and bonuses.
And City have been given encouragement that Messi would be willing to draw his 11-year stay in Spain when his current £500,000-per-week deal comes to a close in 2018.
But not only that – Barca are said to be prepared to waive his £250million release clause in order to receive a more modest £120million fee for the four time Ballon d’Or winner.
Barca have put more emphasis recently on sorting out Neymar’s contract, which Messi sees as disrespectful. Having been out injured and seeing Neymar and Luis Suarez cola ably without him has lead him to believe that he is surplus to requirements in Catalonia.
The City hierarchy can fund the remarkable package on the back of the new TV deal that begins next season and will be worth up to £150m per season for the champions.
